Autumn Weed Control - New Thinking
1. The ChallengesThe imminent loss of both IPU and trifl uralin presents a major challenge to the UK cereal farmer. The impact will be felt in a wide range of situations, whether facing Black-grass problems or tackling Meadow-grass and broadleaved weeds. Herbicide resistance is an increasing problem and one which may make cereal production at best an increasing headache and at worst an uneconomic proposition in some situations. Newer chemistry, specifically the ALS inhibitors, have been highly effective but now are at a real risk of wide-scale resistance development. Going forward, there is a real need for some creative thinking for both grass and broadleaved weed control.
